Contra Costa Boulevard Complete Streets Project Earns ITE Bay Area Transportation Award!
We are incredibly proud to announce that our Contra Costa Boulevard Complete Streets Improvement Project has received a Transportation Award from the Bay Area Chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). This very cool award recognizes projects that advance safer, more accessible, and more connected transportation systems.
Delivered in partnership with the City of Pleasant Hill and other collaborators, this project transformed a major arterial corridor into a safer and more functional street for pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, drivers, and adjacent businesses in innovative ways. The improvements support multimodal mobility while responding to the everyday needs of the surrounding community.
Key elements of the project include buffered bike lanes in both directions, enhanced pedestrian crossings and lighting, ADA-compliant curb ramps, bicycle detection at intersections, and corridor-wide safety upgrades. Intensive environmental considerations were also integrated throughout the design, including green infrastructure, drought-tolerant landscaping, and a recycled water pipeline.
The ITE Bay Area award highlights the project’s people-centered approach to Complete Streets design and its success in strengthening safety and improving connectivity along an extremely heavily traveled corridor.
All of us at Sanbell would like to thank the City of Pleasant Hill, all of our project partners, and the full project team for their commitment, collaboration, talents, and time that made this project so successful (and award-winning!). This recognition reflects a shared commitment to transportation solutions that support intelligent infrastructure for enduring communities now and into the future.
