Sanbell leads engineering, analysis, and public outreach for the City of Billings Safe Streets for All (SS4A) program. This work is funded by a $3.56 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Safe Streets and Roads for All initiative.
First, the program focuses on improving safety and connectivity for all users. It targets areas near schools, neighborhoods, and key community destinations. In total, the effort includes 19 projects across the city.
Next, Sanbell provides full-service support to move each project forward. Our team completes design, traffic analysis, surveying, and environmental documentation. As a result, we deliver practical and efficient active transportation improvements.
These improvements include neighborhood bikeways, upgraded pedestrian crossings, and modernized signals. For example, we install rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) and pedestrian hybrid beacons (PHBs). In addition, we complete ADA upgrades, adjust signal timing, and enhance corridor lighting to improve visibility and safety.
Meanwhile, we focus work along key corridors such as Monad Road, Azalea Lane, and 12th Street West. These locations serve high volumes of people and require safer, more reliable travel options.
Finally, we use data to guide every decision. We tailor each solution to the surrounding context and community needs. By combining traffic engineering, multimodal design, and public engagement, Sanbell delivers projects efficiently and with clear results.
All improvements align with the Federal Highway Administration Safe System Approach. Ultimately, this program creates safer streets, strengthens connections, and delivers measurable safety outcomes for the City of Billings.
