Elko County – Lamoille Bypass Feasibility Study

Transportation corridor analysis map displaying proposed alignments for the Lamoille Bypass feasibility study in Elko, Nevada
Sanbell leads the Lamoille Bypass Feasibility Study in Nevada. This planning-level transportation study evaluates new route options between Elko and Spring Creek.

First, the study focuses on improving regional mobility and safety. It also addresses ongoing congestion and limited access between these communities. In addition, the project explores reliable secondary routes to support travel during emergencies, road closures, and natural disasters.

Past events highlight the need for a bypass. For example, train derailments, wildfires, and severe weather have disrupted travel and, at times, isolated Spring Creek from Elko. Meanwhile, existing dirt roads provide only limited access. These routes often become impassable in poor conditions and cannot support consistent emergency response.

Next, Sanbell is evaluating multiple alignment options and roadway concepts. The team analyzes terrain, environmental constraints, and constructability. At the same time, we assess overall system performance to identify practical and effective solutions.

Sanbell also leads coordination with local agencies and stakeholders. This collaboration ensures the study reflects community priorities and regional needs. As a result, the team develops clear, planning-level recommendations to guide decision-making.

Finally, the study considers growth trends and long-term transportation goals in Elko County. It also supports emergency management planning across the region. Together, this work creates a strong foundation for future design and funding if a preferred route moves forward.
