Rancho Temescal is a 6,000-acre, state-of-the-art Thoroughbred Farm located along Piru Creek, just below Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. The ranch serves as a full-service equestrian facility for rodeo events, horse training, and livestock management.
Sanbell (formerly Jensen Design & Survey, Inc.) provided entitlement permitting and engineering services to support the ranch’s development. Our team led the permitting process for event facilities and equestrian infrastructure, ensuring compliance with Ventura County and California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) regulations.
The ranch includes two ranch worker dwellings, stables, a training track, two arenas, livestock holding pens, a ranch office, and a courtyard. Sanbell’s services included site design, preliminary grading and drainage plans, and comprehensive survey work—including aerial mapping, boundary surveys, and construction staking for the Thoroughbred Farm and other ranch improvements.
Because Piru Creek bisects the property, Sanbell also helped secure CDFW Streambed Alteration Agreements, allowing the ranch to move forward while maintaining environmental compliance and protecting sensitive waterways.
This project showcases Sanbell’s expertise in agricultural development, equestrian facility design, civil engineering, and environmental permitting.
